UC San Diego Passport Office

The Passport Office at UC San Diego is open to the public, offering U.S. Passport and Notary services for both Tritons and the greater San Diego community.

Plan Ahead

Appointments are available from 8:00 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday, and select Saturdays. Appointments can be scheduled up to 30 days in advance.

*All U.S. passport applicants (first-time or renewing) are eligible to use the DS-11 passport application.

Walk-ins are accepted from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

Appointments are given priority. As a result, walk-in services may experience longer wait times.

  • A DS-11 application filled out in black ink and UNSIGNED
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship: Original or Certified copy of Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, or a previous passport. 
  • Proof of Identity: Valid Driver's License, State-issued ID, Official U.S. military ID card, or Government employee ID card.
    • If the Driver's License or State-issued ID is issued outside of California, another form of photo identification  is required. (e.g., Costco card, expired ID, school or work ID, etc.).
  • Two separate payments for each of the required fees:
    1. Application fee(s) - Check or money order (only) payable to the U.S. Department of State for each applicant. Remember to bring separate checks or money orders for each application. Card payments are not accepted for this fee. More information can be found in the Application Fees section
    2. Passport Office fee(s) - Credit card, cash, Check or money order payable to UC Regents. Passport Office fees can be combined into one payment for all applicants.
  • One parent must be present, and both the applicant and the parent must bring valid photo identification for adult applicants ages 16-17.

  • A DS-11 application filled out in black ink and UNSIGNED
  • Both parents must be present and show valid photo identification.
    • Photo identification includes a valid driver's license, state-issued ID, official U.S. military ID card, or government employee ID card.
    • If a parent can't be present, then parental consent is required (See below). 
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship: Original or Certified copy of Birth Certificate, Certificate of Naturalization, or a previous passport. 
    • A birth certificate is required for minor applicants, in addition to a prior passport.
  • Two separate payments for each of the required fees:
    1. Application fee(s) - Check or money order (only) payable to the U.S. Department of State for each applicant. Remember to bring separate checks or money orders for each application. Card payments are not accepted for this fee. More information can be found in the Application Fees section
    2. Passport Office fee(s) - Credit card, cash, Check or money order payable to UC Regents. Passport Office fees can be combined into one payment for all applicants.

Passport applications require remittance of two separate payments - one payment is submitted with the application to the Department of State for the production of the passport book and/or card, and the other is submitted to our acceptance facility for processing the application. More information on the payments can be found below.

Payments can be made with a check or money order only, made payable to "Department of State".

Additionally, the passport book may be returned with overnight mail service for an additional $22.05 per applicant.

Expedited services have an additional $60.00 fee per application. The fee for this service is payable to the U.S. Department of State in addition to application fees. 

2. UC San Diego Passport Office fees 

Payments made to our office can be made with cash, credit card, or check/money order made payable to UC Regents. For multiple applicants, the payment can be combined.

Current routine processing takes 4-6 weeks and is subject to change depending on the volume of applicants. Expedited processing takes 2-3 weeks. Expedited services have an additional $60.00 fee per application. The fee for this service is payable to the U.S. Department of State in addition to application fees.

Transportation

UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley (LRT)

The Passport Office is located within walking distance of the UC San Diego Central Campus Trolley station (map and directions).

Parking Options

  1.  Free client parking - Four spaces near the entrance are reserved for Passport Office clients. The free client spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please park in a designated Passport Services parking spot to avoid campus parking violations.
  2.  Paid visitor parking - Four visitor [V] spaces are available on the west side of the building.
  3.  Lot 510 - Additional paid visitor parking [V] spaces are available in parking lot 510, located on the corner of Voigt and Greenhouse Lane.

Paid Visitor Parking Information 

Visitors must have a valid parking permit associated with their license plate when parking in a visitor [V] space. Hourly or daily parking can be purchased at parking pay stations or on your mobile device. Refer to the visitor parking page for details and assistance.
