The Small Business Development Office fosters economic growth in California through campus use of businesses owned by women, veterans, and local small businesses in the communities surrounding the UC San Diego campuses.

Diverse Supplier Goals

The University of California has a goal to procure 25% Economically and Socially Responsible Spend, regardless of source of funds, from Diverse Suppliers. To reach this goal, the Small Business Development Office offers the following Supplier Diversity Services:

  • Pre-qualifies, sources, and provides Diverse Suppliers training
  • Improves accessibility to and awareness of Diverse Suppliers throughout UC San Diego
  • Provides orientation to Diverse Suppliers on how to do business with UC San Diego

Diverse Supplier Goals for Federal Contracts > $750,000

  • The federal government has the following statutory goals for small business procurement: 
    • 23% of prime contracts for small businesses
    • 5% of prime and subcontracts for women-owned small businesses
    • 5% of prime and subcontracts for small disadvantaged businesses
    • 3% of prime and subcontracts for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses
    • 3% of prime subcontracts for HUBZone small businesses
  • SBDO provides the following services regarding Federal Contracts > $750,000: 
    • Develops government subcontract plans in compliance with the Federal Acquisition and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations
    • Prepares "Good Faith Effort" Diverse Supplier usage proposals
    • Submits Diverse Supplier compliance reports to applicable governmental agencies
